After quite a long search—both online and in the soul—I’ve selected Xander as the name of my company, for three reasons:
Inspired by Alexander Graham Bell, who we all know as the inventor of the telephone. What most people don’t know, however, was that he was a tireless champion for and teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing. Alec’s mother and his wife were both deaf. His mother was more socially isolated, but his wife learned to speech-read and was able to integrate into society. Alec preached inclusion and integration for people with hearing loss—over distinction and segregation.
Contrary to the big companies in the hearing aid industry, I want my company to be personable, social, and friendly—I want my company to connect with our customers. I wanted a company name that was a friendly name a real person would have.
Well, my full name is Alexander, and when I was in middle school, I was trying to lobby my friends to call me Xander as a nickname. It didn’t stick, but… hm… I hope that’s not a bad sign! I like the sound of it, and it is me and who I want to be.
As for the domain, Xander.com was unavailable, and .tech seems to be a trendy new extension for tech startups, so I went with that (also over .health, which often implies more of a health services brand than a health tech brand).
